Great Day For Stitching

It has been a great day for stitching and I have gotten a lot done on my project. The tan area of her dress is pretty easy to do so it has allowed me to really zip along.

Sometimes we like to give Sylvia a bit of yarn to play with. She loves it and this time she strung it from the living room to the kitchen and into the bedroom. It is fun to string it over the bar and play with it when we are in the kitchen.

Here is my stitchy progress on L&L's Guardian Angel. I needed a bit of a break from all the green, so I am working on the brown/tans at the lower edge of her gown.

This is a crochet piece I did for the back of the toilet. It is supposed to be an afghan pattern done in panels. I like to re purpose though!

Guardian angel by Lavender and Lace is shaping up. I am working in the lower left corner right now. And I am gonna try to get the center part of her gown done. I will have to buy more metallic floss as I ran out but I needed an excuse to go to Hobby Lobby anyway!

Now that Sylvia has discovered that a south facing window gets sun most of the day, she is loving it! Not much needed to make her happy!

Well we are back online but I haven’t found my stitching yet. I have also been very ill from the move and in quite a bit of pain as has Jack. I do have a few pics of Sylvia though I think you will like.

We had a visit today from a dear friend who brought us a gift bag and Sylvia a toy dog. Tonight she was thrashing that poor thing to pieces!

I am zooming away on the green band where my needle is. Trying to get as much done as I can before I have to put it away for the move.

It seems I haven’t done much, however I had a big old problem and had to tear out quite a bit. So much of my time was spent fixing that!

Jack is now finished with the cross stitch and is outlining. Let me tell you it is going to be all that more adorable with the outlines!

My beloved modeling the finished afghan. He is not feeling well tonight with the pain in his legs.

My angel as she looks tonight. I am working in the lower left corner right now.

Short visit I know but we have been trying to get things packed as much as we can. Not that we have a lot to pack anymore. I was asked by Lisa about us missing our little house. We will miss it as we have always loved it. However, sometimes hard decisions have to be made and this is one. We do not have the money for everything that needs done and our health is getting worse slowing us to a crawl. Because of the money, we were without hot water for nearly a month until an agency came in and replaced the hot water tank and a pipe that carried hot water. They also reworked our front door and a few other things we couldn’t get done. I am looking forward to this change in my life especially knowing it will not cause extra pain for Jack.

Wild isn’t it? LOL! I wanted to have another afghan going, so I rooted through my odds and ends of yarn. Found the variegated one where my hook is and found the other colors that closely match the colors in it. I am just working as I please with no particular order to color or rows for each color.

Home Fix Up

Our new hot water tank! We have been without a working one for a couple weeks. A group doing weatherization's said since it was so old and such it qualified for replacement and they fixed a pipe that had come apart. It is so nice to have hot water again without heating it up.

Short post I know, but tearing up the bathroom has been keeping us busy. Tomorrow we will tear out the toilet and more sheetrock. Then we can work on repairing it all and putting it together. it is at times like this I wish we had at least a half bath besides the one. Huggles and blessings.

Da tah! After the vanity and sink was removed and shut off valves installed. See the green on the wall? Originally it appears to have a pedestal sink which means they have bracing in the wall already which will make it easier for us!

Here is my finish! I love the way it came out!

Now I am working on this piece from Joyful Expressions called “Fruit of the Spirit.” It will be 8 x 10 inches.. Sandra has such a wonderful way with color! They are so bright and pretty.

And here is Jack’s finish! It came out so wonderful and beautiful. He is glad to be working on something easier for now though!

Flower Power

Thought you might like to see flowers again! Our surprise lilies came up. I surely enjoy them. A little butterfly visiting the meadow sage and the other succulent continues to open it’s blooms.

How Dry Is it?

This is our well baked yard. Little rain for a very long while. It was 104 yesterday and 109 today but it could be worse! I will leave it in the Lord’s hands.

This page is at last done and I am on the last one finally. I did make a change. Do you notice how the leaf under the word “mankind” is?

This is how it was on the chart. To me and to Jack as well it looked odd and I didn’t like it at all. I am much happier with it now.

This will be my next piece. It is from my friend Sandra at Joyful Expressions I will work it on a chamois colored piece of aida.

I am working on berries now on my project. Needed a break from leaves and vines. you know, a little change from working with the same colors over and over.

I found a bunch of cotton yarn for dishcloths when Jack and I were going thru things. Being as Jack is not fond of dishcloths made with cotton yarn, I am making them to give to a friend. I will make as many as I can until I run out of thread!

Feeling nostalgic!

Jack and I have been doing some serious cleaning of the storage shed. I wanted to share some of my treasures with you.

This is one of the cards of buttons my grandmother had and the tag she put in when she made something for us grandkids. The buttons are so old they cost a nickel!

Here Grandma was practicing some embroidery. Most likely thinking of doing it on a piece of clothing she wanted to make.

The only thing Grandma learned to crochet was granny squares. On the left is one item nearly finished. She would sew together two squares turning down the front and adding a bow to hold it. Under the flap would go a pencil and a little notebook in the pocket to keep near the phone.

Below are two of my mother’s aprons. I put a ruler there to give you an idea of how tiny she was! These were made in the very early 1960’s. Mom passed away at age 34 in 1969 but I still remember seeing her puttering around the house in her aprons!

Below is an old card my mom sent to my grandmother. It is folded up in the first picture and when you fold the flap down it makes a 3d picture.

I have most of my little bird on this page done and quite a bit of that big old leaf. I have finished a bit more since I took this picture.

Jack is nearing the end on his last supper piece. He says he is ready for a break with a simpler piece when it is done.

I am almost done with my doily. I think I have about 4 or maybe 5 rows to go if that much. I have enjoyed it.

Here is a shawl I am working on for a friend. It to is a fun and easy pattern.

Cross Stitch

Here is my cross stitch piece. I only have a couple berries to do and then onto the outlining and that page will be done. That means 2 more pages left and it will be finished.

Do you remember I told you about the special cross stitch Jack will be working on next? Well this is it. I know it doesn’t look like anything special but it is to us. It was some quilt squares my grandmother had started some time ago. She had to give up on her cross stitch and crochet around age ninety. We were given all her sewing and cross stitch and quilting projects when she passed away at age 93. It is a little reminder of her everyday to see her projects. The Dresden plate quilt blocks were never finished but I still treasure them.

I have been busy on my doily Plus I have started a shawl for a person who requested it. The shawl pattern is fairly easy and a pretty pattern. Right now it looks more like a blanket for a snake! LOL!

Here is my cross stitch. I feel like I have been doing grape leaves and vines forever! LOL! The corners generally are pretty well busy work.

Jack has been making some real progress on his cross stitch when his legs are peaceful enough.

And I have been working at my stitching too. Nothing much done today but I was busy on it yesterday.

The doily is really coming along. I am on round 21 of 35 so not much longer. But of course it does go some slower as the doily grows.

Crochet

This is a doily I have started on. It will have butterflies around the edge. I have patterns also with bumblebees and another with hearts around the edge I want to make as well. I used to have a lot of doilies but have given some away!

The girl on her vanity! My goodness the ways she naps! I would never be able to get up again!

I had to cover my new to me loveseat as our girl loves the texture of the fabric and I thought, “Hmmn, I could make her a neat hidey spot.” She loves to tuck herself in there and try to ambush you as you head to or from the kitchen. If she didn’t say “mmmmm” as she launches her attack, it might work better!

Sunset tonight

Gardens

Our front flowerbed. I am having to herd the morning glories daily to stop them from hugging everyone!

We had a wicked line of storms last night and this is what it did to our tomatoes. Our neighbors garden faired better. We did restake and straighten the plants and they may pull through. I will trim any injured areas in the morning and Jack will fertilize them to get them going again hopefully.

Stitching at last!

I did a lot of stitching today as I was dealing with a lingering migrane and very little sleep. I hope I can soon finish this piece.

I also finished a prayer shawl for someone. I do need to work in the ends so please excuse that.

I have finished everything on my afghan except for the border. Not sure how wide I will make it yet. Depends on how far my yarn goes!

Whoo, when it decided to warm up it did it big time! 95 degrees today but I don’t mind as the tomatoes do better in this weather. We already see fruit on a couple of them. Following is what Sylvia thinks of the heat. Sleep when it’s hot or cold or even just right.

This week I made a sunbonnet for when I am outside.

And repaired one of my favorite valences I made sometime ago. I then hung it in the laundry room.

And just for laughs. A frog planter belonging to one of our neighbors. I really like it!

Flower Power

Our flowerbed after a weeding and adding some rock. Sure looks better! Another hibiscus bloom. It is just over 7 inches across.

I have the third row attached. Only one more to go and then it will be time to add the border. It is getting heavy too!

Sylvia & the mice!

Our girl has been sillier than usual today. Endless games of pattypaws with mom. Goofiness with dad, and mouse thrashing! In case you are wondering, pattypaws is where Sylvia sets on the floor near the loveseat waiting for me to notice her and run my fingers along the edge. She will then pounce and give me one, two, or three slaps careful never to scratch.

Here is my beloved working hard today. He is making a temporary toilet for when we tear up the bathroom.

I have been a busy little beaver this week. At least when I can keep Sylvia away from it! LOL!

Terrible tornado in Joplin

Joplin was hit hard this evening by a tornado. It gave us an hour and a half away very unusual sky color and clouds.

We had to travel to a larger town to get some of the remaining supplies for our bathroom. We stopped for a soda and saw this 1950's Dodge. Just a wee bit rusty!

Here are my squares thus far. I have 15 more red and white and then it will be time to sew them all together and finish it up. I like sewing granny squares together!

Saw this big tank being hauled on our outing today.

I had to get some aran color yarn to finish my squares and Jack bought me this skein of thread as well. It is called Rustica and has just a bit of sparkle. I got it on sale for 4 dollars and it has 920 yards so it will make a huge doily!

I finished up the baby afghan a day or so ago. I think it came out really nice too. Just a nice size for a sweet baby boy!

Miss Sylvia Joy being, well, Sylvia!

Okay so I like to mix my own paint on occasion. Usually do pretty good at it but not this time! LOL! I knew what I wanted, a nice light tan with gold undertones. Had a small can of brown boo-boo paint from the hardware's mistake counter. I thought the full can mixed with some leftover caramel color would do the trick. Yeah, right!!!!! Not a color I want to look at when I am in the bathroom or any other room for that matter. I would tell you what it looks like but I think I will behave!

No problem with my mistake though! I am not easily deterred! I too a small amount and added it to a partial can of white. Much better and that is what I was going for! Stay tune for part two coming soon as I am trying for some more mixing fun to get a color for the lower bathroom wall.

So sleepy! I think she would like me to take my camera and take a hike! LOL!

Okay on to my squares. I finished the 32 painted desert ombre color on the left and now I am working on the bi-color next to it. I need 64 of those and 64 red and white. I may end up running out of the painted desert though. We will see.

I needed to do an afghan for a precious newborn baby boy. I had limited yarn and no funds to buy any so I decided to attempt my first round afghan. Boy is it fun and fast!!! I started this yesterday and once you get the foundation rows, you don't even need the chart anymore. Find the pattern here

How does that girl tie her self up so and then manage to sleep? I would have a permanent crick in my get a long

Jack whipped out a couple smalls the other day. Cute aren't they?

Where HAVE I been?

I have been crocheting away. Here is a big pile of granny squares. 120 to be exact. I decided to do up all the remaining squares I need and I wanted to get the biggest amount out of the way.

Jack and I also decided last Sunday afternoon to go to our local park and also Camp Galilee. Camp galilee is a wonderful, beautiful camp for kids and they have other events as well. It is owned by the Methodist church. I have been asked if Jack and I are Mennonite. We are not but we share many of the same beliefs and chose to live simply and quietly. I chose to cover and dress conservatively because I honestly believe this is what God called me to do. I am the only one in my family or church to cover. Please feel free to ask me any questions about my life or beliefs and I will do my best to answer you.

We went to our favorite nursery the other day and then took a drive at the conservation area on the way home. Here is a smilebox if you would like to go along with us.

And I got an out and about apron made as I call it. Took me a bit to figure out how I wanted to do it but I finally got it. I will make some minor changes on the next one.

I have put aside my cross stitch for now to finish some crochet projects. I have two afghans started and 2 prayer shawls. This is one of the afghans I am working on which is a variant of an Ohio Star quilt.

Finished up this prayer shawl and it will be going out soon.

I only have the edging to finish and this one will be ready to go out as well. I am nearly done with it so hooray!

Unexpected absense!

I don't have any crafty posts this time and let me tell you why. Our computer crashed a week ago and come to find out the mother board had fried and we had to have a new one. We just got the computer back yesterday. So here is Sylvia relaxing while looking out the window.

I have been busily sewing away. I want to try and finish this page before I switch to my other piece but no promises!

Took time to make raisin swirl bread. It should make a wonderful little snack tonight.

Our girl has been extra silly today. Here she is trying to get my attention. It worked!

Jack has not had the heart to fix the desk drawer where are computer sits here in the living room. This is the reason why. Sylvia sees it as a great place to stalk and prey upon toy mice!

Here is where I stand on my project. Now I don't know about you, but sometimes I make changes on a project. Like this one I chose to make the letting all one shade of blue and instead of one I used two strands for the outlining on it as well. Heck, it is my project so why not!

Here is Jack's last supper project. Not a lot more done on it as he was in to much pain for a couple weeks to work on it. He is working away tonight.

Spent a little time starting my white on red project yesterday. Doesn't look like much yet.

They had a fire in Nevada over the weekend. Totally destroyed the NAPA auto parts house.

What do you see in my kitchen picture? An old kitchen in need of repair, a window needing a curtain? You would be right but I see love. yep, love. A husband nearly in constant pain everyday who knows I like to pull everything off my cabinets frequently to clean everything real good. After standing and doing the dishes in the evening he then did the detail cleaning for me. The next day he pulled everything out of the fridge and scrubbed it for me before I could get to it. That is more love than flowers, candy and presents!

The princess last night as I was on my way to bed.

I faced my fear of being around a lot of people Sunday afternoon to attend a rally with Jack on the 20 year anniversary of my childhood friend disappearing. She has never been found. I met a lot of her family some I knew back then and I met her grown children. It was a hard day but I am glad Jack and I went!

Jack and I have been doing plenty of stitching together. Here is mine. I am on page 4 of 9 so Hooray!

Now, how is this for a funny place to nap? Look close and you will see a pink little nose!

Jack has just finished some outlining on his Last Supper and is back to cross stitching. He is really nearing the end!

Ever tried to do your computer thing with a chubby kitty laying on front of the keyboard? Trust me it is worse when she decides to stand right in front of the computer! LOL!

Getting close to outlining on this page. Need to finosh some leaves at the bottom and then time to outline!

I am adding this from Jeremiah Junction on red aida. It will be a nice break from the other piece now and again.

Made an everyday apron this week from a sheet. I will make another from the same sheet. So it breaks down to two dollars per apron in cost. Works for me. I will make a little nicer apron for over my dresses when I am out and about.

Here is my piece as of tonight. It is just zipping along and I am really liking it as well.

I got a lovely surprise from my friend Angela in the mail this weekend. We haven't known each other that long but we really get along and enjoy sharing e mails and chatting. After a tough week with jack's painful foot and frequent headaches for me, it was a wonderful end to the week.

And lastly, Jack is back to working on his piece. He is in the home stretch pretty much. I can not wait until it is done and framed!

I have put away my wolf for good. I just really don't want to work on it anymore. I have worked on it going on my second year. I don't mind a piece taking some time but that is just way to much for me knowing I probably have more than a year of work left on it. So I have started one of my other projects and I am pleased with the choice I made as far as the fabric. I think it goes very well!

Here is Sylvia Joy napping on Jack when he was flat out because of the pain in his foot this past week. He is getting better but still in some pain. Seems to be a bad spell for us both as I have had more migranes than I care to think about!

Well, it didn't work out for me to do the Precious Moment girls I wanted. Instead I will be doing Lavender & Lace's Angel of Autumn. I have wanted to do her for some time now.

I am working on this piece right now. I bought this on clearance a while back so time to do it. It shouldn't take to long as it is pretty easy.

here is a simple little piece from Mosey and Me I started yesterday and finished up today. It was a fun, quick stitch. I did decide to add some swirlies on the lamb.

I thought it would be fun to take pictures of all the cross stitch projects Jack and I had done over the years. Not counting of course, ones already framed or given away. I honestly thought they would all fit on the bed but it avtually took to photos to do.

I am nearly done now with my rooster. His body is outlined and now I am working on the grass and then I will outline his legs.

Jack and I have been sitting and cross stitching in the evenings a lot this past week so he has a lot done as well. It is looking good!

Here is the wolf. I have stopped for now both for a break and probably until I get the needed floss.

Jack is back to working on his project. Not much longer and he will be outlining this section I think. It is really coming to life.

Here is my wolf. I am starting on page six although not quite all of page five is finished. I ran out of a couple colors and no extras so I will continue on until I get some bought. I have been enjoying doing him but at the same time I will be glad to hve it done since I started on it last year.

This has become the usual around here of a morning in our living room. Looks all sweet and innocent right? Actually it is very funny as Jack tries to defend his bowl of cereal and see thru Sylvia to do his morning computer stuff!

Yummy! Made a batch of bread pudding! The recipe is here. It came out perfect and so good on a cold day!

The wolf is coming along well. I am out of a couple colors with no extras but it won't stop me!

You know when I have good pictures of Sylvia I have to share! She loves this pillow on the sofa. So much so that if Jack has his feet on it when she wants a nap, he gets the "look". LOL!

Today Jack is not feeling well at all. Lots of pain in both feet making it difficult to walk and feverish. It is old hat for us and shall soon pass. I spent some time rubbing his feet which often helps.

He did get some work done on his project. It is just going to be beautiful when it is done!

Miss Sylvia this morning watching the world. She often sets there when we are on the computer to keep us company. She likes to come over on the desk and interrupt your computing too!

Here is my project. At last the wolf has an eye! I am nearly done with this page and it wasn't to bad.

I caught Jack just a bit ago sewing away on his project. He is so used to my orneriness he didn't even bat an eye!

Miss Sylvia Joy got a present in the mail today from our dear friend Karen. that cat now has more toys than Carter has liver pills! LOL!

Here is a picture of Jack's project. I can not wait to see it finished. When he adds the outlining, that really just sets it off!

My wolf has the beginnings of an eye. I would have been done with it, but I made a mistake in placement of a row of black so a rippin' I went. Back on track now if I can keep a certain cat from sneaking up on me and laying on it when it is in my lap!

Sylvia and the wolf

So Sylvia took matters into her own hands this morning. She fed herself and left her dad a note. Really, she did!

A nice long nap after a busy afternoon of mouse bashing!

Been working away on the wolf and have a good bit done. The bit next to the white was a pain with a lot of colors jumping all over the place. Still enjoying it though.

At long last the rooster has a leg or two to stand on! LOL! Working on his tail feathers now and then the grass and outlining and he will be done.

I sometimes enjoy applying special effects to my pictures. This time I picked on Sylvia! She was looking out the front room window.

Here she is fetching a toy she lost. The drawer is out because it needs some repair.

I found a small amount of fabric at Ehler's in the rummage bin that will be perfect for some new caps!

Okay, I was saving my best surprise for last! I finished that pesky page of nearly all black on my wolf. Now I am well on the way on the 5th of 12 pages. if you are interested in this pattern he is at this site. He is on page two but they do have other nice patterns.

Here is little Miss Sylvia Joy chillin' in her box. Right now she is abusing her toy mice and fuzzy balls and just having a great time.

We had to move our computer in the living room so Jack can fix the hole in the floor. Well you know I just had to torment Jack and when he turned around I got this picture. Poor Jackster!

Lookie, lookie! I am so close to being done with this section on my wolf and then on to a page with more than two colors! I can not wait!

I have gotten quite a bit done on my rooster so now I am back on the wolf.

After I took this picture of the wolf, I finished the row of stitching and have started on another section. I may get this page done one of these days!

I had to share this smilebox of Sylvia Joy learning to play with boxes. This morning she took a little nap in the bigger one.

It was a chilly day a couple days ago but this fella was still out riding. I don't believe Sylvia has seen a horse before and the look on her face was priceless.

Jack took this picture as she was napping on him.

Hooray aren't you thrilled to see more black cross stitches? At least I can mindlessly stitch pretty much!

These pretty little cups are a present from my sweet friend Bren. It was a very nice surprise to receive a goodie box from her.

She also sent this lovely cross stitch, some flavored coffee and a box of Christmas cards for us to use.

And one last one of Sylvia napping a bit ago. She nearly fell off the pillow while enjoying her bath. Yep, a sneeze hit her and she toppled over against the arm of the sofa. I laughed so hard I was crying!

Wolves, kitties and a finished bedroom!

I decided to pick on Sylvia tonight as she enjoyed a nap. One time she did what we call the "popeye" at me. Ya know, the look with only one eye open.

Did a little on my wolf after getting my glasses. I can see so much better now. I can even see all the colors in the wolf!

Here are pictures of our bedroom now that it is finished. The wall color is actually a butterscotch caramel color and not yellow as it seems in the first picture.

Here is the sunflower border. I cut out a few of the bees, butterflies, ladybugs and dragonflies and put them here and there on the walls.

The floor is a natural cherry gloss. We left some of the imperfections and small holes to give it character.
