Water, water everywhere!

We have just been deluged with rain lately. It has been raining almost steady for 2 days. This is north of town at highways 54 and 69 looking south towards town.
This is 54 and 69 highways in town not to far north and west of us.
This is 3rd street and 69 highway just a few blocks down the hill from us.
This is the marmaton river well over it's bank. it is expected to be 40 feet above normal by tonight.
North of town. The people were taking things from their house. I wouldn't live there for all the money in the world!
From highway 54 at 69 looking towards town.
Here are the people saving what they can.
Just a note on us. We are looking at a house tomorrow in my hometown a short distance away. The landlord made some very mean remarks and comments yesterday and we have had enough! He put tarps on the roof which slowed the leaks. We also have new leaks in the kitchen and back bedroom. We can't even turn on the bathroom light as it is leaking water through it. Thanks to a very dear friend who is loaning us 300 dollars, a move is possible with the right house. I know the house and the folks who own it so we have high hopes. It is 2oo dollars less than this place and Jack will have a workshop to putter in. We also have another house we can look at that is about the same price. So keep us in your prayers!

Happy Friday!

Here is Jack's baby quilt! He is just zooming along on it!
I have been crocheting some granny squares for the neighbor. Nice break from cross stitching!
Here is my funky little heart! Just need to outline it then on to all the squares and such around it!
Thought you might like to actually see a finished piece! I did the stitching in 2000 and then Jack matted and framed it. He says it was a booger to get centered in that heart shaped mat!
Once again Fort Scott and surrounding areas are flooded! We have had lots and lots of rain the last couple of days. Some roads are closed because the Marmeton river is out of its banks and I mean WAY out! So keep us in your thoughts and prayers please!

Have a laugh-at me

Okay, so I learned a very important lesson this weekend. Do NOT trim bangs whilst you are nervous and/or anxious! Get the picture? I was doing pretty good with it and was halfway done when I ended up cutting a big ole notch in them! Well, shoot! Okay, no problem they will just be a little shorter than usual so here I go again and you guessed it, another boo-boo. Now my bangs are VERY short but the third time was the charm. I look like a cockatiel! Right there in the middle my poor short bangs are standing mostly at attention. Hubby thinks I am right in style! I only hope while waiting for them to grow back out that I don't get the urge for bird seed or attempt to sit on a perch. LOL! So write this down in my book of life lessons!
Let's have a little more fun! I got this from Lucy

You Are a Turkey Sandwich

Conservative and a bit shy, you tend to stick with what you know and trust.

You are very introverted, and you prefer to blend in whenever possible.

Though you may be hard to know well, anyone who does know you considers you a true friend.

Your best friend: The Ham Sandwich

Your mortal enemy: The Tuna Fish Sandwich

What Kind of Sandwich Are You?
Like I would have any mortal enemies!

Let's have a visit!

I have lots to share with you! The morning glories are blooming! I just love the colors!
Jack teases me about herding my morning glories. LOL! I am just trying to get them to go where I want them to go! So there I am saying, "Let go of that other flower! Climb ALL the way up the string and quit grabbing your neighbor. No, not THAT way, I want you to go THIS way. Could you please just hold on to the railing!" Hee, Hee, so now it is confirmed that I am not all here mentally.
Okay, a couple funny pics of Katie doing what she does best--sleeping!

At last my progress report. I was almost done with my tree when I took this pic this morning. now he is done and on to the house! That will put me close to the halfway point once I finish the house! Yippee!
I am making this doily for my neighbor. She provided the thread and I get the pleasure of crocheting with it! She doesn't know how to crochet with the thread so I am happy to do it.
My afghan is coming along. Funny how that dark purple looks more blue when I take a photo of it. The actually colors are off white, pink and dark purple. I am almost to the end of the bottom and will start working up the side soon. These type of afghans are not worked side to side but diagonally so it takes a bit of getting used to plus this pattern has a LOT of color changes. it is slow going most of the time.

So there you have it. All the news thats fit to print around here. I will be visiting you guys in a little bit!

Gunn Park

Here are a few photos of Gunn Park here in Fort Scott. It is a HUGE park created in the early 1900's. There are lots of little cabins folks can rent for get togethers, two small lakes, a river, paddleboats, playgrounds and lots of places to walk and enjoy.

Short little video of Katie

I thought you might enjoy this little video. it's not very long but it is cute!

Lots to visit about!

Yippee, yahoo! The new Jeremiah Junction is here! Happy, happy dance! I want to do the cover project. I just love it. Okay, now that I have had my happy dance, on we go!
This picture was to good to pass up. They are working on the neighbors house. Doesn't it look like one VERY tall person on a ladder? Actually there are two ladders and two people! It cracked me up!
Stitchy News! Here is my sampler. I am just zooming along! Right now I am working on the lower part making a tree. It looks more like a stick right now.
Here is my fun heart one. Part of a heart anyway. I haven't felt like working much on this one.
And here is middy. I just about have her gown done. And guess what? I lost the metallic thread for her wings so now I have to buy some. I think a thread gnome snuck in and took it!
Here is Jack's baby quilt. He is working on the bears foot and hand and a little chair or something next to him. So cute!
Note to BY THE GRACE OF GOD: please send me a comment with your blog address. I can't seem to find yours.
And one last bit of news. The landlord put a permenant sump pump in so no more flooded basement! He also fixed the hole in the garage roof and as soon as the danger of all this rain is past, we will get a new roof on the house. They are hoping for next week. The landlord put a bunch of roof cement on there to try and slow or stop the leaks until the roof is replaced. It was bad Sunday! Even had a leak coming in through the bathroom light and had to move our antique vanity that is in the bedroom to keep it from being damaged. Not ashamed to admit Sunday brought me to tears!

Flower power!

Of course I had to start with a Katie pic! Wednesday and Thursday it was so hot, humid and windy it wasn't funny!
The wind got so bad there were lots of limbs down and we had an advisory out. So this morning 62 degrees was a bit of a shock but a lovely day to sit on the porch and enjoy! It got into the 70's and only a slight breeze.
Look at what we found out back! Sorry it isn't blooming today but it is a daylilly in the back yard. I think I will try to move it to a better spot this fall.
Here is the little patch by the side porch off our bedroom. The morning glories are racing to see who reaches the top of the bannister first! I need to plant some more to replace the ones that didn't germinate. I lost all the ground cover I planted along the front. We had so much rain it destroyed them! I want to put a climbing rose bush on the end there. Wouldn't that be lovely? And it would block some of the evening sun.
And here is my patriotic patch out front! Just a little patch!
So hope you enjoyed a little stroll around the yard!

Here is our verse and picture for today! I apologize that the words are a bit hard to read but I hope it blesses you anyway.

Important question!

First stitchy news and then we will get to a very important question!
I have added another project. The pattern was with the light effects thread Jack got me for Christmas. I really like this funky little heart. The light effects thread is a metallic so I am working with shorter pieces and using my Thread Heaven. It is not as bad to work with as regular metallic but it can be a pain so I just work slowly!
Now for a burning question of epic proportions! Is this paint yellow enough?
This is our hallway which is not a real sunny spot. The landlord brought some paint by last week and said if we liked any of it we could use it. (Yes, that is my bathroom sink-in the hallway. The bathroom is laid out weird and there is no room for it in there!)

So I was intrigued by one that was called egg custard. I thought it would be a nice soft yellow. Well yellow it is but soft it isn't!!!! It actually made my eyes hurt painting with it. I was thinking maybe this isn't a good choice. Jack suggested I give it a go and keep painting and live with a bit and see if we like it. Well, you know, I do like it! It really brightens up the hallway. So it will stay but wear your sunglasses!
Not much else going on around here. I will post a couple pics I took of Good Old Days. No, we didn't go but we drove past. And think good thoughts for Jack and I! Our 27th anniversary is the 6th. How awesome that is to us both. No celebration or dinner out this year as we are trying to pay off some things and are kinda short on funds. But we are happy just to spend a quiet day stitching together. See you soon!

Wild night in Fort Scott!

For the last 2 weeks or so we have been getting rain pretty much every day. lately it has been coming in the evenings and early mornings. Thursday morning we got nearly 3 inches of rain. Then last night about 5 or so in the evenings the rain moved in again. By ten last night the lightening was getting really bad. We heard it strike near by a number of times. A couple times the lights went out briefly. Then one time we saw lightening strike near by again and the whole house shook for over a minute. Pretty soon we saw police cars racing by and then fire trucks. When we walked out on the porch we could see smoke billowing into the sky north of us. All I could do was pray for the people I knew must be really frightened and in shock.
This morning we walked down and the pictures tell it all. This was a lovely old victorian home a couple blocks from us. The fireman told us that the people were home and downstairs when it happened. They didn't even know it was their house that was hit. A passerby called 911 and I guess alerted the people inside. Please keep them in your prayers. they were also trying to sell their home at the time.
