Dogs On Thursday

When the weather looks like this outside your back door, what's a girl to do?
Sit and look gorgeous with your newest toy you picked out yourself. Yep, she went to petsmart, met some other nice doggies and picked out her own toy!
Then you nap a little,
Then you nap a little more!
Ahhhh, it's a dogs life for sure! Visit the link in the sidebar for more Dogs On Thursday!

I apologise!

I am sorry there is no word filled Wednesday. I am afraid I have been more miss than hit of late with this. And I have been very bad at keeping up with everyone this week and sharing awards and all. I just have been feeling much worse than the usual things of late. Come to find out, I have a sinus infection which explains the sinus headaches, the more than usual migranes and just feeling plain old punk! So I am on antibiotics for the next two weeks. If it isn't cleared up by then, I have to have a scan to see what is going on as I have been having trouble off and on for 3 to 4 months. *sigh* So please bear with me and I will soon be rip snorting through life again! Oh and as if that weren't enough! A virus corrupted my camera program and I had to delete and reinstall it. Then the program fought with me and the computer and, well, I just flat got plain old irritated and was a grumpy bear so I gave up on the computer. I went, and set, and enjoyed peach herbal tea and attempted to crochet! LOL! God bless all!

I am still here!

Jack and I have managed a bit of sewing. I put together a row of my next afghan just to see what it will look like. now I need to do some more squares to do the next row.
Here is the Ruth project. I am working on the dark blue silhouette of the man and some of the clouds too.
Here is Jack's snowfolks! Not a whole lot of cross stitching left for him to do! He has some specialty things to do when all the stitching is finished.
Now, I wanted to share the colors we are painting the walls. Caramel for the kitchen and living room walls.
A nice green called guacamole for the hall and our bedroom.
And a soft yellow for the laundry room, kitchen cabinets and the computer/hobby room. Eventually we will paint the wood trim a nice crisp white. That will be nice I think.
We also took time Friday since I was feeling very brave, to go down to Springfield and hours drive away. We visited some friends at the pharmacy they own. Katie got lots of loving and plenty of biscuits too. then we went to a place called Andy's. They serve frozen custard and we got our favorite which is called a snowmonster. It is vanilla custard with lots of strawberries and some chocolate swirled through. Yumm!!!! Then on to petsmart for Katie shampoo. She even picked out her own toy but more about that on Thursday! So God bless all until next time!

BURRRRRR!

After reading a post from my friend Vanessa with a bread pudding recipe in it, I was hungry for bread pudding! LOL! So I decided to make one and I thought I would try the recipe she shared only I made a few minor changes!
Here is the recipe.

Brenda's Bread Pudding

4 Cup milk

1/4 cup melted butter

4 eggs

1 Tablespoon Vanilla

2 Cups sugar

12 slices of bread, torn into pieces

1/3 Cup sugar

1/2 pint Whipping Cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix the first 6 ingredients in a large bowl and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Poar into a 2 qt (not sure about size but this sounds about right) buttered baking dish and bake at 350 F for 1 hour. Remove from oven and sprinkle 1/3 cup sugar all over the top of hot pudding and pour whipping cream over the sugar. Return to oven and bake at 425 degrees F until top becomes golden brown.

The changes I made were to add raisins and decrease the sugar to 1 cup since raisins are so sweet. And instead of whipping cream, I used evaporated skim milk because my tummy just can not handle a lot of fat. It is so yummy! Give it a try!

Well, now that all that living room carpet is up, and the furniture rearranged, we were able to bring my Dad's antique waterfall vanity in the house. I am so glad to have it near by once again! I put Grams jewelery box and her hair brush on there. Jack's grandmother's rosary is there and a pretty velvet box containing my mom's watch. Also a picture of Grams and her daughter, My Aunt Gin and Uncle Don. The bear in the red dress belongs to our neice and was given to her by her late Grandmother. With Tina in a state facility, Jack and I have most of the handmade things her grandmother here with us where they are safe.
So other than all of us trying to stay warm in the cold weather. That is what we have been up to. One last thing I would ask of you. Please pray for us as tomorrow we have a home going for a family member. His name was Lester "Babe" Bland age 93. He was a precious sweet man, always smiling despite having to go to the care home and having to start using a wheelchair. When ever we visited Grams at the care home and saw Babe, he had that smile going! I really cared for him! He has 3 children, Gaylen, Randy and Carla. His wife Minnie left us in 1994 or 1995 not for sure which so they are together again. When we went to see Babe at the funeral home, he still had that sweet, precious smile on his face. My prayer for all of you is this. Should you have a home going, may you be able to smile because you know you are going to Heaven to meet the Savior and your loved ones who are there. That is my earnest desire for you all. God bless you until next time!

Weekend visit

We had some visitors this week. It's been pretty cold all week and a dusting of snow, so they are thankful for the yummies left for them. We have 3 suet holders around the house. Two with High protein suet and one with bugs in it for those who like those kind of things! And we sprinkle bird seed under the big tree.
Here is Mr. Woodpecker and friends munching away.
I caught Mr. Cardinal this morning! It has a bit of a glare with the morning sun but you can't miss that patch of red!

This is what we have been up to with the house. Took nearly two weeks but we tore up what we "lovingly" call the scuzzy carpet in the living room and rearranged and cleaned the whole thing. Hard enough work if you are in good health but twice as hard and painful for us but well worth it! Eventually we will need to refinish the hardwood. It is an unusual floor too. Most hardwood floors are a random pattern with long pieces of wood and a few short so the seams don't line up. Ours is all short pieces about a foot long in a running bond pattern. We want to refinish it and stain it in a claret finish which is a nice wine red color not quite as dark as mahogany.
And here it is! the new stove! Nothing fancy but it works great! I still haven't learned how to work the timer but I will. Took a bit to figure out how to work the oven. Had to read up on it in the manual. It is a push button system that even tells you how long until it is preheated to the correct temp. It is taking some getting used to the smooth top but what a dream to clean it!

So there ya have it! Our week in a nutshell. No time for sewing this week and too tired anyway! God bless you this week.

What a weekend

It was both a sad and happy time for the citizens of El Do. We had a fire Tuesday downtown. This building was vacant when it caught fire. The building to the right was not an housed H&R Block. They were able to salvage computers and papers and such. That building will have to come down also. My Aunt and Uncle at one time had an Otasco store in there and I spent a lot of time there. This was in the early 1970's. It also housed a restaurant in the 2000's called The Great Missouri Chicken. Jack and I ate there a lot and we even had lunch there with my late father. Lots of memories and it made me teary eyed with all the memories it stirred up.

On a happy note! The opera house is finished! They had an open house the 6th. We forgot and so didn't attend. Shoot! Here is a website if you want to see more and read about the remodeling. They will be showing second run and old classic movies.
And here is what is left of my stove after Sunday night. BIG scare! I was in here on the computer while supper was baking. Jack went to check on it and had just pulled the casserole out when the oven made a horrible sound. Then sparks and flames shot out of the storage drawer. It scared us both half out of our wits. Jack was able to shut off the stove and grab the fire extinguisher to cool things down. Praise God the home and the 3 of us are all okay.
So we had to go stove hunting today. Checked a couple rental places and walked away. I am NOT paying 130 dollars a month for a used stove! We went to an appliance store there in Nevada, found a nice smooth top stove with self cleaning oven made by whirlpool for less than 500 dollars and it will be fully covered 100% for 4 years! They do in house financing so we will pay 35 dollars down Wednesday and 21 dollars a month until October when we will pay it off when Jack gets his retirement. So we will make due until Thursday with my crock pot and roaster. Tonight I will use the roaster and make a nice hamburger soup! Now if we could just find the handle we need for our toilet all will be well! The dumb thing broke and takes a special type of handle. Our favorite hardware store has them but someone else got the last one. Now what is the chance of two people needing a rarely used product in the same week? LOL!
And at last here is my progress on Ruth. Coming along nicely.
So that is all the news thats fit to print here in the Ozarks. Until next time God's blessings on you all! One last thing! Took a fun quiz!

Lots to share

Here is Jack's snow folks. He is nearly done with the cross stitching part. It is just too cute and I love it!

I am working again on my Ruth project. Forgot to take a picture silly me! i will share it with you on Monday and I promise to have lots done on it.

I was blessed by two awards this week by one person.

This award originated at XANDRA'S BLOG and here's her description of the blog award:
So here's to all the blogs that you've discovered that you can't possibly live without. They make you laugh, cry, think and feel connected every time you read a post. They give you a thrill as you see them loading into your browser and you get an equally satisfying thrill when you see that they have commented on your blog."

I was so honored to receive these awards from Angela. She is such a sweetheart and her blog is a treasure to me. I will be passing on at least one of these awards a week or so down the road.
Lastly, I will be doing something different starting next week. See the little button in my sidebar? Right there, the one that says "dogs on Thursday"? You can click and go there and read all the great posts on different furkids every Thursday. i will be doing one for Katie with all the funny antics of the past week. So that is enough for me for now. See you soon and God bless you!

Quick Sunday post

I finished my afghan! Here it is all done! Yippee. I just did a narrow border on it. I don't know what I want to work on next. Still not much in the mood to cross stitch. i feel like crocheting. i have another afghan with all the colors pulled I want to do but I need to print out the chart and I don't have ink right now. HMMM, oh well one of these days!
And I leave you with Katie and how she spends her time with me late at night if I am on the computer. may I add that her snoring at times is both amusing and distracting?
God bless and keep you.

Who left the freezer door open?

Man but it has been cold here! The last few nights it has gotten into the single digits and teens with the brisk winds putting the wind chill at 0 or a bit lower! Katie's nose has been out of joint because that has meant no long walks twice a day. The best she got was the vacant lot next to our neighbor for a bit of mole hunting and a chance to do her chores. She was a happy camper today to get a proper long stroll. Sunday they promise temps in the upper 60's and maybe even a rumble of thunder with the rain! Gotta love that Missouri weather! Anyway, I keep plenty of high protein suet out for the birds. Along with dollops of bird seed in the crook of our big ole tree out back along with piles of it on the ground. I take the nearly eaten up pieces of suet out and put it in the crook of the tree for the squirrels to enjoy. This is pictures of our little visitors today.
Poor little birds were mighty cold. They ate their fill and soaked up some sun.
Didn't take this guy long to find the suet!
Joined by a buddy dining on seeds. I could spend hours at the back door or kitchen window watching my wild babies. They are only a few feet away and so enjoyable!
Here is the latest on Jack's snow folks. They just keep getting cuter! So enjoy your day my friends until next time! God bless!
