Word-filled Wednesday

The picture is of some calla lilies I grew. Well, at least one of them and another lily behind it. Just one of many of God's splendors in this old world. Please join us for word-filled Wednesdays. Visit Amy-Deanne to learn more.

Stitchy stuff, katie and the sunset

This will be Jack's next big project. Another lap quilt called snow folks.
I am nearly done with Life's Lesson sampler. Just finish the morning glory border and add the date!
Now we interrupt this stitching for a sunset! Popped out in the cold and wind to snap a pic from the front porch.
Oh and here is Katie helping Jack sew! LOL! More like using his leg for a pillow!
Jack finished up a pair of pillowcases. They are very bright and vivid in person!
Now he is working to finish up this little wall hanging. It says "The heart that loves is forever young" I like that!
So there is our weekend in a nut shell! Have a wonderful week everyone!

Fun photos, cross stitch and lots of gabbing!

I wanted to share some pictures we took around town this past week. These are our downtown decorations.
These are garlands with bells on them in the picture above. And the merry Christmas welcoming you to downtown.
Here below is what you will see on the highway. We also have Santa and his reindeer in the park. And the covered wagon on Main has lights on it too. Each year we also have a contest for individuals who decorate their homes.
I wanted to share something with you. Some will probably not care but it tickled me to no end to find it. This is an engraving done in the 1800's of my ancestors home in England. It was called King's Bromley Hall and even the famous Lady Godiva once lived there! How funny is that? Sadly, it was destroyed in 1920 but wasn't it beautiful?
Here is a home Jack and I love on Main Street. Isn't it cute with it's picket fence and all?
I have always been fasinated with the window on this old home. That must have taken a lot of work to make that rascal!
The other day, Jack went to the dollar store to get jelly and something else. I was on the computer when he got back and handed me a sack. This is what was inside! An adorable little snowman that has a light inside. I try to get a new snowman every year. Last year I was too sick to care about it.
And for the big finale!!!!!!! Jack has finished the crib cover. isn't it wonderful? I just love it.

Recipes!

Red Velvet Cake
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 and 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup buttermilk
2 beaten eggs
1 ounce red food coloring
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 tablespoon vinegar

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift flour, cocoa and salt together and mix buttermilk with coloring. Add dry ingredients alternately with liquid ingrediants to creamed mixture. beat well. Dissolve baking soda in vinegar and fold into batter. grease and flour two 9 inch layer-cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Remove from pans, cool and spread with Vanilla frosting and filling

Vanilla frosting and filling

1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup softened butter
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 cup shortening
Grated coconut (optional)

In small saucepan, blend flour with milk and salt and cook over low heat, stirring, until of pudding consistency. Cool. In large bowl, cream together shortening, butter, sugar and vanilla. Add cooled flour mixture and beat until smooth. Spread between layers and over top and sides of cake. Sprinkle with coconut if desired. Refrigerate cake.

Cinnamon rolls

(I put mine in the bread machine on dough setting) In mixer bowl combine 2 cups flour and 1 package active dry yeast. Heat 1 cup milk, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/3 cup butter and 1 teaspoon salt til warm. (115 to 120 degrees) Stir constantly and add to flour mixture: add 2 eggs. Beat at low speed of mixer for 1/2 minute. Beat 3 minutes at high speed. Stir in as much of 2 to 2 and 1/2 cups flour as you can mix in with a spoon. On a floured surface, knead in enough remaining flour as you can to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic. ( 6 to 8 minutes). Shape into a ball in greased bowl, turn once. Cover, let rise until double ( about 1 hour). Punch down divide in half. Cover, let rest 10 minutes. Roll one half into a 12 x 8 inch rectangle. Spread melted butter over dough. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Sprinkle over dough. Add as many raisins or red hots as you like. Roll up jelly roll style beginning at long side. Seal. Slice into 12 rolls. Place in greased 9 x 1 and 1/2 inch round pan. Repeat with other half of dough. Cover and let rise until double about one half hour. bake in 350 degree oven 20 to 25 minutes. Cool slightly and remove from pans.

Michelle's easy pancakes

Using a 4 cup measuring cup, add 1 cup milk in it. Then add 2 teaspoons baking powder to the milk. Next beat in one egg until well blended. Add 1 teaspoon salt and mix. Add a little cinnamon. Last, add in 1 and 1/2 cup of flour mixing just until blended. Lumps are okay! Make sure your griddle is hot before you make your pancakes! I use 3 large tablespoons of mix per pancake. Cook until you have bubbles, flip and cook a couple minutes more! Makes about 8 cakes! Enjoy!

Happy chilly Friday!

Of course we must have a picture of Katie! The queen on her sofa with a toy in her mouth surveying her kingdom!

You never know what you will find under wallpaper border! LOL! I guess covering it up was easier than fixing it!
And here is Jack's method for removing it! Grab it at the corner and go for it! You may get two walls at once for your effort! LOL!
For those who would like to know, we are trying to figure out a way to purchase our little house. We are going to try going through a program with the Department of Agriculture. Also, our landlord's talked to us about doing rent to own. So keep us in your prayers everyone!
Okay, okay, here is some stitchy stuff. Just mine as Jack is nearly done with his baby quilt and I will show that later. This is the only one I have worked on this week!
And now for a bit more fun! I took this little fun quiz over at Mrs. Amy's

I am a

Word-filled Wednesday

I do hope you don't take offense at this. The scriptures do mean a lot to me and we can use humor to get the point across. I love this picture and always have! With it being thanksgiving here in the states, I just had to use it! May it bless you! Please join us for Word-filled Wednesday. Visit Amy-deanne and find out more!

Happy thanksgiving!

Whether or not you will be celebrating thanksgivings this coming Thursday, I want you to know that if you visit me, you are special in my book. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to come and see me. I am very blessed, very blessed indeed! God has given me so much. A loving husband, a little dog to cheer my days, hands that love to be busy creating, my friends in here in this little box I call a 'puter! I am rich beyond compare, more so than the king's of this earth. No, not in money but love and blessings. My home is small and modest but bursting at the seams with love and caring for you all. You won't find fancy things here but you will find comfort, caring and a shoulder should you need it. Oh and plenty of home made goodies to fill your tummy with love too! LOL! My heart and my arms are always open and my ears are ready to listen should you need me. I will always be here for you. So thank you God for these blessings, and a heart to care for others. And thank you God for the friends I have made here and my precious little family!
